Normally asking an average kiteboarder to head out on the water for six hours would end with some calamity. But during Kiteboarding for Cancer, all I could see were smiles on the water. Every year the event brings together a great group of people with the same cause, to raise money and awareness for cancer. Instead of funding research, Tonia(KB4C founder), focus’s her efforts into survivorship camps. Taking recently diagnosed patients and full on survivors to a healthy fun environment where you they can focus on getting back to a healthy lifestyle and deal with the unique challenges being a survivor can pose. This year saw more participation than ever before, and on Sunday mother nature provided us with plenty of wind to run the kite endurance derby. With over 100 kite boarders on the water making laps for charity, I would say the event was a huge success!
Representing Liquid Force our team comprised of Brian Smith, Sensi Graves, Joanna K, and myself (instagram @brandonscheid). Our goal was to complete as many laps as possible, raising as much money as we possibly could. We managed to do 33 laps in just over 3.5 hrs, which was just 3 laps short of the first place winners. But we were the only team on the podium not comprised of all guys, not to shabby.
By the end of the day we had raised over 100K for the camps and everyone had an amazing time. Keep your eyes peeled for official results and some great videos as well. If you didn’t participate, fundraise, or donate this year, make sure its on your calendar for next!
