The Reverse Vee Twin Pin is the fourth board in our collab with Maurice Cole. With this one, we asked Maurice for his take on Torren Martyn’s twin fins combined with his reverse vee bottom shape. The result is less fins and more tubes...

The Maurice Cole Reverse Vee Twin Pin features a longer, leaner outline, beak nose, tapered rails, reverse vee bottom shape, and a four channel bump wing pin tail with twin fin set up. The fins are set back in the board, eliminating any drift associated with twin fins, and the need for trailer fin. The channels add grip and drive to this board giving it a really confident, positive feel.

The Reverse Vee bottom helps with challenging takeoffs, making it easier for the surfer to connect with the wave and get going down the line...fast. Twin fins have less drag than thrusters and quads. So do longer railed, parallel outlines. The combination make this a fast board with good linear speed down the line and solid hold when the conditions turn on.

What We Like

This board loves quality waves where you can really open it up and let it fly. It also works in average surf due to its fast, drivey performance. For a board that works this well in good surf, it surprised us how well it worked in average surf. It’s not a groveler, but above that it just keeps getting better, and still stays lively when it’s not the exact right board to be on.

We love reverse vee bottom shape for late drops and challenging drops. It’s like Tesla Auto Drive. The board can land completely messed up and just connect and go. What really blew our minds on the Reverse Vee Twin Pin, was how positive and connected the tail was with the channel bottom and twin fin design. No matter how late and how sideways you took off, the Reverse Vee bottom would re-direct, and the twin fin tail would hold. You normally wouldn’t think that about a twin fin, but on this one it stuck like glue and made a lot of waves you didn’t think you’d make.

Insider Info

This board is great for smooth lined, down the line surfing. It’s not a ripper, like the Reverse Vee Shorty. Think linear speed, smooth flow and longer arcs.

You ride this board longer than your other boards because it’s designed to be ridden that way. In comparison to other “hybrids” it’s narrower and slightly thinner. The board we surfed was a 7’1 x 21 x 2 13/16 @ 46 liters. It handles the added volume really well and doesn’t feel “big” if you could be riding smaller. They also duck dive really well, as this seems to be a trending question when talking about higher volume boards. Even the larger sizes like the 7’7 to 7’11 feel epic under your arm and not bulky anywhere.

This board is designed around a more vertical twin fin template. We surfed our Twin Pin with Futures Fins ENs. If you’re on the lighter side or want to experiment with smaller fins, you can also use Captain Fin Co Tyler Warrens or Christenson Twin Fin sets.

Why You Want a Reverse Vee Twin Pin:

You want to go fast and draw clean lines. You want a board that adds confidence to your better wave game, but doesn’t disappoint if the waves end up so so. Or maybe you can’t resist the look. It’s dead sexy. Less fins - more tubes. That pretty much sums it up.
