Description

From CORE

Offering an innovative, performance driven but playful twintip with an extremely wide range of use, the Choice 5 is your perfect freestyle-freeride-big air one-board solution.

Delivering an undeniably smooth ride combined with on-demand agility, the Choice 5 is easily accessible with sporty riding characteristics that even beginners and intermediates are guaranteed to make great learning progress on; quickly graduating to grabbed rotations and explosive jumps.

The Choice 5's excellent grip comes via state-of-the-art multi-channels, while the exciting agility and pop is made possible thanks to the relationship between the new tip shape and integrated quattro channels. Softer landings are due to the strongly contoured underwater hull, effectively breaking the surface tension of the water before pressure is felt in your knees. This easier feel helps you correct messy landings and manage choppy conditions more comfortably.

Choice 5 in Detail

Thanks to pre-selected Paulownia slats, the Choice 5 is up to 250g lighter than its predecessor. Instead of the previous ABS rails, composite rods made of ABS and a laminate of up to 80-layers are used. This unibody technology, which originates from ski racing, creates a direct connection between the Cartan carbon laminates in the deck and hull in the form of a torsion box.

Features
  • MULTI-CHANNELS
    • GRIP AND CONTROL IN ALL SITUATIONS: A massive double concave center channel and a smaller outer channel follow the length of the board, providing extra depth for the V-Keel and incredible grip. In addition to the center channel, we added Quattro tip channels. Freestylers can load their edges more than ever, while freeriders will enjoy how well the Choice 5 tracks upwind.
  • BEVELED DECK
    • REDUCED REVERSE FLEX AND BETTER PLANING: The Choice 5 features a 6-degree beveled deck edge from tip-to-tip that blends into the Katana channels. The bevel decreases longitudinal flex for more pop, reduced reverse flex and more powerful edging.
  • PRO ROCKER
    • FULL BOW FOR BOOTS. HIGH COMFORT FOR STRAPS: The Choice 5 features a progressive freestyle rocker that is most pronounced under the handle. Board curvature is then reduced towards the tips. Individual flex patterns are built into each board size to lock in the best performance possible. Without giving away our secrets, good flex and bad (aka reverse) flex is measured and managed by varying the lamination thicknesses during production. A super-hard landing, for example, can create a negative rocker between your feet. We work very hard to eliminate bad flex, so those rock hard landings are easy to recover from. Not to worry, the Choice 5 is still deliciously fun when you are not in 'training' mode. Go hard, or easy; either way, you’ll love it.
  • TUCKED UNDER RAILS
    • MORE GRIP FOR MORE EFFECTIVE GAIN IN HEIGHT: The board features a tucked under bottom rail between the straps that transitions to a box edge near the outer inserts. The rail thins out to a sharper edge at the tips. The tucked under rail softens the ride and improves water flow, whereas the sharper tip edges add more bite.
Materials
  • CARTAN® CARBON
    • UNIQUE FLEX AND RIDING PERFORMANCE: Our proprietary 30° biaxial carbon fiber layup optimizes torsion and flex. Our made-to-order 30° biaxial carbon fiber has more flex along the length of the board and less flex between the toe and heel. Cartan carbon's unique high filament count also requires less resin which saves weight. Enjoy improved pop, softer landings and extreme durability with Cartan.
  • UNIBODY EDGE
    • THE BEST CONNECTION OF DECK AND HULL: High-end racing ski sidewall technology finds its way to twintips. An industry first and more expensive foil, the carbon and thermoset resin process massively improves the connection between the top and bottom Cartan carbon for a true unibody build. We replaced the previous internal ABS edge strip that joins the top and bottom carbon sheets with a new 80 layer, laminated, resin-activated strip that is much harder, stiffer and better bonding. The new edge improves torsional rigidity and also stores and releases more energy than before.
  • PAULOWNIA LIGHT
    • LIGHTER WOOD CORE WITH THE SAME STRENGTH: Powerfully light, marine-grade, laminated wood core. All wood has natural variation in density and volumetric weight. We now select the lowest weight laminations before gluing them together. In doing so, the specially selected, long-grained Paulownia wood is 250g lighter and just as strong as the last generation. It gives our boards dimensional stability, decay resistance and a lightweight yet distinctively powerful character. The Paulownia extends towards the board's edges and is CNC milled both top and bottom.

Go To Board

This is my go to board. I'm 5'8" 135lbs and I ride a 137cm in almost all wind conditions. This board has noticeably more rocker than the Core ERA or Core Fusion 5/6, yet it still points upwind well and handles light chop with a slightly stiff yet not jarring ride. Where the Choice shines is in big air pops. The more aggressive rocker, channeling, and stiffness of the full carbon construction make quick upwind carves accessible to even beginner riders. While jumping, the lightweight design makes the board easy to handle, and the stiffness helps cushion less than perfect landings. I would recommend this board to anyone who is looking to progress beyond simply mowing the lawn and move into any kind of rolling or jumping tricks.

So light!

Getting as much air as possible on my sessions is what I enjoy to do so the lighter and stiffer the better in my opinion. Its light feel may have something to with the Union bindings but holding the choice in one arm and the North the Choice it was considerably lighter. The overall stiffness to get you jumping as high as you can Atoms stood toe to toe with Choice. Weight of choice gives it the edge for me.

Super fun board!

This board is by far my favorite board to use. I am 160 lbs and I have been using the 137 for all my sessions with wind speeds ranging from 18-30+ mph. The board has a super lively feel under the feet with lots of pop, but still holds up in stronger wind when edging hard. When jumping, the board explodes off the water with smooth and forgiving landings. Overall this board feels very fun and natural for me. I have yet to find another board that feels as good as the choice.
