The Phantom is the Step-down version of John John Florence's current favorite model the Ghost.
"When we first brought out the Ghost we had no idea that its unique design would come to be embraced by so many people in so many different types of waves. However, the one bit of feedback we kept hearing was that it works best in waves shoulder-high and up, so we looked at making a step-down board that would bring that same feel to the head-high and under days that make up most of our daily surf sessions."
Jon Pyzel
Here’s a side by side of the Ghost and Phantom, both in 6’2s.
Both boards feature wide point pushed forward, putting volume under your chest, a longer sweet spot, and a forgiving, drivey, free feel.
The Phantom has same Ghost rail rocker, but more concave, so a straighter rocker down the center of the board for lift and speed.
The Phantom has a wider nose and tail, again for more lift/speed in less powerful waves. This straightens the rail outline creating more drive.
The Phantom is roughly 1/2" wider size per size compared to Ghost = More lift and speed in less powerful waves.
The Phantom is available as a thruster or 5-fin, with a squash tail or fuller figured round tail.
Ghost is recommended for chest high surf and bigger. Phantom is recommended for thigh to slightly overhead surf.
If you’re quivering up, you ride both boards at your favorite volume, putting the Phantom a few inches shorter than your Ghost.
